This hotel was just tragic, I couldn't sleep at all because of the noisy restaurant above my room which was like it was in my face, and the smell of smoke that lingered from who knows where was just good. I woudl ve been happy with a minor room upgrade, but I guess that's too much to ask for?

Staying at Hotel Troya Balat felt like stepping into a postcard of history, with beautiful vintage details complementing modern comforts. The breakfast options were a good surprise. Although the lack of an elevator made lugging bags a bit challenging, the attentive staff and great location made up for it.

Had a really nice stay, the hotel is quaint and stylish.
The location of the hotel was central, near to Istanbul, lots of old houses and public transport. It also was close to everything Balat has to offer. Single room included an electric kettle, a mini bar fridge, and air conditioner...

I stayed for 7 nights in a Suite Sea View and loved the charming decor. The breakfast was an absolute highlight with plenty of delicious options. Getting around was easy with the tram and ferry stops right across the street. The staff provided great advice on local spots. A great experience 🌟

The whole hotel was clean and the staff was helpful and amazingly attentive. Our room was reasonably spacious and breathtaking and had a mini-bar, satellite TV, and climate control. We had a spacious bedroom and there was a great view of the seaside from its window. The services were good, including excellent breakfasts and free parking if needed. Our experience here was really nice.

Beautiful, small, authentic hotel.
The hotel is rather old and charming. However, because of the location next to a very buisy street in Istanbul and the single glass the rooms on the Golden Horn side are very noisy at night. You may want to ask a room on the other side. But than you will not have the view of the Golden Horn.

For anyone thinking about this
A quaint hotel with charming decor. Amazing sea view rooms overlooking the Golden Horn ignite excitement, while delicious traditional Turkish breakfasts set the perfect tone for exploration. The neighborhood brims with vibrant shops and delights waiting to be discovered.

The location is perfect if you do not like hords of tourists, but you still like to be within the historical center. The view over the Golden Horn is gorgeous. Outside you will find "the real Istanbul" with many wooden mansions and small streets. With a bus (the stop is near the hotel) you can easily reach any place in the city. Also, it is a historical Christian quarter, so if you like to visit the Patriarchy, it's just across the street!
If you cannot stand the driving street noise, forget about beautiful suites facing the Goldern Horn. Or just keep the windows shut (then it's very quiet). Well, actually if you like everything quiet, you will have hardtime in Istanbul :) To me, even cars noise is great compared to tourists and shops! The personnel was nice and everything was perfect; however they appeared somewhat sad...

Historic and Artistic Rooms, Location by the Golden Horn, Unique Vintage Character
The noise from the restaurant and hallways disrupted sleep!!! Cleanliness standards seem inconsistent, affecting overall comfort!!!

Nice room and pleasant staff.
The announced free pick-up from the airport was very difficult to obtain. I needed help for calling the hotel (in turkish) and had to wait for 2 hours at the airport.

The original features of the building have been tastefully retained and restored. We had to ring a little bell on a pulley for someone to open the door. The tiles on the floor ,the beamed wooden ceilings and frescoed walls in our room were all in keeping with the architecture of the period.
Payment in full was inexplicably demanded on the very first day of our 6 night booking. This in spite of the fact that our credit card details had been given as guarantee when we reserved the room ,and passports had been photocopied on arrival. The owner's attitude was inhospitable and we felt offended. We have travelled all over Turkey on many occasions, over many years and have never encountered anything like this before. On the contrary we have always felt welcomed. The whole episode left us with rather sour recollections . We will not be returning and will not recommend.
